Up front I apologize, because it's 3 am and I'm a little foggy and have been out of the Stargate Atlantis fandom for roughly three years now.
This story is set somewhere around season 1 or 2, established McKay/Sheppard, and might be part of a series. It was written (and read!) before 2010, at the latest. What I remember is that Weir is throwing a party on Atlantis for some reason. At the party there is a geek room, where most of the geeks are playing video games. At some point John comes into that room, and all the geeks are mad because they don't think he should be there (something about that area being free of military backlash for homosexuals?). Then John kisses Rodney, or does something really casual to demonstrate their relationship and everyone is shocked. I have a vague recollection of the word "oasis" being part of a tilte, or series' title, or maybe the author's name?
No idea guys, I've tried searching myself and got no where. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The above, Scenes from a Lesser War, with the bit about the party that I had somehow thought was part of The World According to Rover Series by Orithain & Rina.
