I feel silly because I'm pretty sure I've seen this searched for. In fact, I think I might have searched for it before. But I cannot find the post.
John and Rodney break up because John is worried about the implications to the team - he doesn't want to start making decisions he shouldn't just because he's dating Rodney. There's a real tear jerk moment where Rodney tries to explain that John had made a decision base on caring about Rodney anyways after John had broken up with him so it makes no difference if theyre together or apart but John stops him and explains that he would have done it for any member of the team. It ends with them together though. I think Rodney almost dies and John realizes that Rodney was right.
