I hope there isn't some sort of unspoken rule about too frequent requesting. :x
Anyway - there is a story out there where John(?) gets kidnapped, and his captors are threatening to start cutting off bits (they may have already sent back a finger or something). I don't recall the reasoning, but something is keeping them from sending a rescue party (too risky / no authorization / taking too long to get off their asses / some other BS).
Rodney gets fed up, and in typical heroically terrified Rodney style, goes through the gate alone.
I don't remember if the author 'fades to black' through Rodney's invasion, or if all the detail is ther, but if I recall correctly, it was very bloody and there might have been electricity involved (or one or the other, not sure exactly).
I only read this one once, and it has been years, so it is possible I am getting things mixed up between fics. It is possible it was a 'rodney was kidnapped and has to save himself because nobody knows where he is' thing too. I just remember something with him being both resourceful, and surprisingly (violent / bloodthirsty / willing to kill) in order to save (John / himself / himself and John).

ETA 2: *sheepishly slinks back in* See, that's the problem. One fic reminds me of another fic which reminds me of another fic which reminds me of one I can't find now. SNAFU led me to another of sardonicsmiley's (Through the Noise to the Sea, if you're interested), where Rodney is an atlantean native merman, and the scene in it where the Genii, during their attempted takeover of the city, cut Rodney's hand membranes.
This brought to mind another story, where the cutting of Rodney's arm was really bad ('looked like hamburger', I think is how it was phrased). But because it's in a relatively small area and is covered by few bandages, people think it's a superficial wound and that Rodney caved really easy, so people {get mad at him / form a low opinion of him / shun him for being a cowardly coward}.
I'm throwing this in here as an edit because I don't want to be a community-hogging jerk that floods the front page with requests. :|
