I'm not seeing the tags to search on my tablet unfortunately and will try as soon as I'm on a laptop, but seriously, this community is awesome (and still active!!!! YAY SGA) In a fit of nostalgia I wanted to reread some long forgotten favorites and there are two fic that I've been desperately googling for for two days and can't for the life of me find, so here goes:
Both are Rodney/John relationship, the second one I'm sure is slash and I'm pretty sure the first one is too, though it may be friendship.
1) John thinks Rodney is dead. There was a cave in I think, and it turns out Rodney wasn't actually dead, but was rescued by an alien race they'd had some interaction with previously. The aliens had no notion of music and the gate team had successfully traded with them in the past using Rodney's mutant ipod. I remember the phrase 'mutant ipod' but Google swears that phrase does not exist with Rodney and John. There was some line about wondering what the aliens would think of a culture that created both __ and __ (The blanks I think were Metallica and Mendholson though it may have been a different classical composer.). Rodney is eventually rescued by these aliens and reunited with John.
2) It was a canon-divergent au, where John had been sent back to Earth and someone else put in charge (I think directly after The Siege, and I think Caldwell, but I could be wrong.) Rodney had stayed on Atlantis, then been sent back sometime later. Over the course of the story, it's revealed that the new command (Caldwell?) had kept the scientists from having crossover self-defense training, cut out the Athosians, etc. Eventually, someone (the Genii?) attacked Atlantis directly, and a lot of scientists were killed. Rodney (revealed as he tells John, not shown directly) eventually managed to control the situation and started executing the invaders by setting the gate destination to a space gate and marching them through it (he snapped a little) and was sent back to earth. Rodney and John were both heavily whumped by the exile/missing the city. It wasn't the happiest fic but it was so so good. I can't remember if they're ever able to get back to Atlantis or not. This may be from a different fic (been so long since I read these... grah!) but I think Rodney may have stolen them a puddlejumper for retirement to cheer John up. This one is killing me, I've been trawling rec lists, archives, anything I can think of and can't find anything that sounds right.
