LFSS where device turns John into a cat

I am looking for the series of stories where John has been turned into a cat by an anciet device. I think the series is called "Checkmate" but I don't remember who wrote them. I was in the middle of reading them and thought I had saved the site... but when I back to finish,,, they weren't there. Thank you in advance, finlaure
